Protein Shake - Convenient, Affordable and Tasty Too

Protein shakes are a valuable addition to your weight loss or wellness tool kit. When losing weight, you will lose fat and muscle, so if you make sure you get enough protein in your diet, you will tip the scales in favour of retaining muscle whilst losing fat. In fact, clinical studies have shown that although people on protein shake or protein meal replacement diets don't lose any more weight overall than people on other diets, they do lose more body fat.

So what does this mean for you? When you lose fat, but retain an equal weight of muscle, you will lose inches but not pounds. So, protein shakes will essentially make you thinner rather than make you weigh less. I'm happy settling for that! As well as having lower body fat readings, it means that you are storing fewer toxins, and if you lose the fat from around your middle, you are greatly reducing health risks such as diabetes, heart disease and other risks associated with obesity. Protein also keeps you feeling fuller for longer, especially when combined with fibre, so you won't feel as hungry - see the Lean Protein Estimator for how much protein you need every day.

Benefits of Protein Shakes

A great thing about using a protein shake mix is that it is transportable. You can either make up the protein shake at home and take it with you, shaking it just before you want to consume it. Or you can make it up when convenient by just putting the shake mix in a plastic container or even storing it in a shaker, ready. This is really useful for when you are out and about and don't want a dairy-based drink sitting in the heat of your car for too long, or you like your drinks cooler - just buy some milk and mix it up when needed.

The other advantage of a shake for breakfast is that if, like me, you can't normally face food first thing you can either take the shake with you to work, college etc...or you can have something at home which is far more easily digested than toast or cereal. Again, add in some fruit and you've got a power start to the day.

I used to work in a really busy office, and barely had time to eat. That theory of having a lunch break did go straight out of the window! I used to buy a sandwich and crisps, then eat at my desk while I worked. Then, at about 4pm, I'd want something with sugar in as I was really hungry. Knowing what I do about shakes now, I really wish I'd known about them then - easily digestible, quick to make, and cheaper than my usual lunch of choice.

How to Use Protein Shake Mix

Using a protein shake mix is really simple - always remember to add your liquid first (so you can measure it accurately, which is important when watching your weight), then add the shake mix. If you have a blender or a hand mixer, you can also add different fruit such as a banana to give you some extra nutrients, and also some variety. We are only human, not dieting machines, so allowing yourself plenty of variety means you'll enjoy your food more.

Conclusion

I hope that's given you some insight into the benefits of protein shakes. They don't have to be used for dieting, as you can probably tell. If you need a quick, healthy, affordable and convenient meal...here's your answer.
